Cigna warns of fake job listing phishing scams

Hackers have reportedly been posing as Cigna executives making phony job offers and posting fake job postings in a string of phishing scams.

The health payer posted a notice on its Career FAQ webpage encouraging job seekers to be aware of job postings and offers that may be fraudulent.

Cigna offered some warning signs that may indicate a phishing scam. The company told jobs seekers to ensure the person claiming to be with Cigna has a email address or a Cigna phone number. Additionally, the payer said Cigna will never ask a job applicant for payment as part of consideration for a role with the company.

“One of the many tactics of phishers is to create bogus websites in order to pose as potential employers and solicit individuals’ private information, and even cash,” Cigna told Becker’s Hospital Review in emailed comments. “We posted this information as a public service for individuals who may be phished, and to direct potential job applicants to rely on contact via as a certain and secure source for employment information.”
